Event Description

This workshop will provide an overview of the fundamentals of Project Management. It will cover the four Phases of Project Management, the business aspects and the responsibilities of a project manager.

A Project Manager continually faces challenges and the success of its project is dependent upon keeping the equilibrium between three key elements; Quality, Cost and Delivery.

The presenter will offer industry real case scenarios, share samples of schedules on Microsoft Project and lead the participants in a group project.

Guest Speaker:

Ojeni Sammis worked at Xerox Corporation for 27 years.  She has extensive experience in managing complex projects entailing multi disciplined/cross organizational teams often disbursed geographically. She has broad knowledge of generating technical proposals leading to winning contracts.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, extensive technical knowledge in Computer Architecture, Hardware design, Image processing and printing industry.  She has worked with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Service, Finance, 3^rd parties and Contracts departments.  She has participated in business strategy, contract negotiations and pricing discussions with VP level management and Chief Executive level customers.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT ESSENTIALS

COURSE OUTLINE:
The foundation of what every project manager needs to know in order to successfully manage projects is presented in this three-day course.
PM Essentials covers the basic concepts of the five fundamental project management processes, defining requirements, schedules, risk management,
and change control. Participants gain an understanding of how the project management processes are used during each phase of a project to build a better,
more effective project plan. Through the use of short case studies, practical exercises, class discussions, and lectures, participants have the opportunity
to apply these best practices in a non-threatening classroom environment.

METHODOLOGY:
AUA Extension and APMA’s (Armenian Project Management Association) Training courses are based on accelerated learning methods
and deliver vast amounts of information in the shortest possible time. We adopted new approach for systematized teaching; the principles
implemented make the training process easy, efficient and maximum flexible:

Pre-reading : Each participant will get training materials to be able to read whole theory in advance.
This method will help everyone to be in same level of theory and be ready for more practical training in classroom.
Classroom : At classroom only actual practical knowledge and Armenian reality cases will be discussed and reviewed.
An important activity for students will be presentation of their own experiences of problem solving and project management decision making.
eLearning: Training materials will be available in an eLearning system and all students will have full access to it.
Recommended literature will be provided to the students in digital version. Additionally, all students will get templates and forms for practical
management of projects developed by Project Management Institutes. We use Armenian Distance Learning Network: www.e-courses.am
Mentoring: The trainer will customize more theory and practical knowledge on eLearning system and during this time each student will get personal mentor to look after learning process online. We will help you to focus on topics and be more motivated to learn.
Assessment: After training fully completion each student have to pass assessment on personal development and usage of knowledge.

DURATION: Total of 18 hours in class and 20 days for eLearning.

SCHEDULE: October 1, 2 & 3 – 6 hours per day - 11:00-17:00 (1 hour free time for lunch)

FEE: 59 000 AMD (VAT inclusive)

CERTIFICATE: Students will receive a Certificate of Course Completion based on their attendance level and eLearning participation.

Albert Poghosyan is the founder and president of Armenian Project Management Association. Throughout his career in IT
including an experience in eCommerce technologies; he has been fascinated by management and, more recently, specialized
in Project Management. As a topical subject, Albert spends a large proportion of his time researching the project management
standards including PRINCE2 from British Office of Commerce and Project Management Institute standards.

Hurray! We have got the first member from Vivacell at Last!
I was really waiting for this day for about 10 months, since the day the APMA has been opened.

We have got first member from VivaCell-MTS staff and he happened to be Brasilian/Lithuanian working currently Ericsson AB Sweden and he temporarily assigned to support on VivaCell project deployments in Yerevan, Armenia. Even though he is not the main staff member in VivaCell and even not Armenian by nationality (he has recently moved to Armenia) he found it interesting to join the Project Management Association to gain professional grow, though his stay in Armenia will be short.

On the one hand it is really surprising that during those 10 month of membership registration existanse no one from VivaCell was interested to join APMA. On the other hand, a question occurs: did they know anything about APMA? Well most of them have attended PM trainings previously and have known about this organization even before it was officially opened. In the whole company only one person has been interested in AMPA– Tommy Mazejian but he never joined.
For sure this is not about VivaCell and even not about any particular organization in Armenia. I wish to undertand the tactics about professional grow for managers (both project and general ones). Sometimes I wonder why it so much differs from those in Western countries.
These might be explained as low level knowledges owned by local professional organization, at least this is my answer. But if you understand what is knowledge development, you would defiantly understand that in such small country we are not creating any knowledge. All that we share and share openly is just general knowledge available from world’s large organizations.
So the only explanation I can give  is that our managers are very happy with what they have. No need to go further. This is the state of mind. And this is the way how we go.
Hope this will be changed very soon. With or without our help.
